GSE/GLE State Standards

The Rhode Island Department of Education, in conjunction with New Hampshire and Vermont, has developed state standards in the areas of reading, writing, mathematics, science, civics, and engineering. These standards are organized as Grade Level Expectations (covering one year) in grades K-8 and Grade Span Expectations (generally covering 2 years) in grades 9-12.

These standards are guiding the development of our local curriculum writing and mapping. The state uses the terms GLE and GSE to describe their standards.

GLE = Grade Level Expectations (standards for one specific grade level)

GSE = Grade Span Expectations (standards for several grade levels)

Below are some links to these standards.
