"Ponaganset Chooses to Include"

First Day of School "Choose to Include" Assembly

“Choose To Include”

Our goal at Ponaganset High School is for students to actively search for and reach out to anyone feeling left out and not included.  Everyone’s gifts should be freely shared and celebrated. All of our Unified activities inspired us last year to create our Chieftain Inclusion pledge that we will continue to embrace as a faculty and staff. The first day of school this year was filled with excitement for the start of a great school year.   The student body was welcomed on the first day with a Choose to Include assembly lead by seniors Ethan Fraatz and Grace Wells-Dannenfelser. Junior, Maggie Nardelli shared inspiring and heartfelt words to her fellow peers on the important message of the power of inclusion. The students welcomed new students and faculty into a school that promotes respect, inclusion, unity and acceptance.  As a school community we linked arms and took our pledge together.

Ponaganset High School started their first day of school with a student led school wide assembly including our very own Thunder Clap, led by seniors, Jake Lincourt and Josh Soares.

Junior, Maggie Nardelli speaks to the students about the power of inclusion.

“Inclusion is often portrayed as putting aside each other’s differences to come together, rather than embracing the diversity within ourselves. Hi, I am Maggie Nardelli, co-president of the junior class, and we hope to inspire you to embrace each other's unique qualities. Our grade will be working on obtaining a better understanding of what inclusion means to us, our school, community, country, and the world this year, and we encourage you to do the same. Our goal is complete and total inclusion.  Complete inclusion looks like embracing uniqueness, unquestionable acceptance, and giving value to every student and person no matter the discrepancy. It is the opportunity to learn together but more importantly from one another. By amplifying and celebrating what makes each and every one of us special we are able to create friendships that will outlast our days here at Ponaganset. To embrace inclusion, searching for and reaching out to those who may need encouragement as well as standing up for those who  face discrimination is vital. Inclusion is within every person's abilities. As we explore how much we can accomplish when we include everyone and stand together, we aspire to someday experience the world positively changing because of people living by respect, unity, inclusion, and acceptance. We hope that our community’s strong message continues to spread worldwide as it has in the past year, and that students everywhere learn the value of inclusion.”
