Posted on 12/11/2018

Wreaths Across America stopped at Ponaganset High School on Tuesday while on its way to delivering wreaths to Arlington National

Cemetery in Virginia. Students gave awards to individuals during a veterans-honoring ceremony.

This year will mark the 12th year Ponaganset has hosted the Wreaths Across America ceremony.

Wreaths Across America is an extension of the Arlington Wreath Project, which was started in 1992 by Morrill Worcester, who placed 5,000 holiday wreaths on veterans’ graves at Arlington National Cemetery to honor deceased soldiers at Christmas.

Ponaganset High School was chosen as a ceremonial site in 2007 for its school program, which culminates a classroom educational unit on the American military veteran experience. Also, the school was the site of the recent multi-day appearance around Veterans Day of the Living Wall half-size replica of the Vietnam War Memorial Wall in Washington, D.C.
