• To take a teen driver’s ed course, you must be at least 15 years, 10 months old by the first day of class. Community College of Rhode Island+1

• As of July 1, 2022, online-only driver education courses are not accepted for this requirement in RI. RI Division of Motor Vehicles

You have a few options:

• Take the course via the workforce/continuing-ed division at the Community College of Rhode Island (CCRI). Community College of Rhode Island+2North Providence Public Schools+2
• Use a licensed driving school. For example:
  • Newport County Driving School offers in-person 33-hour classes. newportcountydrivingschool.com+1
  • Labonte's Auto School also runs programs in RI. labontesautoschool.com

If you go with CCRI:

• Register online through their workforce-training portal. ccriworkforce.augusoft.net
• You'll pay with a credit card. Community College of Rhode Island
• On the first class day, bring proof of age (birth certificate, passport, etc.). Community College of Rhode Island
• You’ll also need to purchase the textbook: How to Drive: Making Driver Education Fun and Easy! (15th ed). Community College of Rhode Island

If you use a private school:

• Visit their website (for example, Newport County Driving School’s site) to see upcoming class schedules and register. newportcountydrivingschool.com
• Be sure the school is approved by RI DMV for driver ed. RI Division of Motor Vehicles+1

• After finishing the 33-hour classroom portion, you’ll get a Certificate of Completion. RI Division of Motor Vehicles
• You’ll use that certificate to apply for your Limited Instructional Permit. RI Division of Motor Vehicles

• Once you have your permit, you must complete 50 hours of supervised driving, with at least 10 of those hours at night. RI Division of Motor Vehicles+1
• There’s a “Parent’s Supervised Driving Program” to guide parents/guardians in helping their teen. RI Division of Motor Vehicles
• You can use the RoadReady app to log driving time and track conditions.
