Blue Jacket Bright Future

The Ponaganset FFA Blue Jacket Bright Future program was established in 2023 and is modeled after the National FFA program of the same name. The purpose is to award a deserving member with an official FFA jacket.  While participants are allowed to borrow them throughout the year, there is no better feeling for a dedicated member, then zipping up their very own personalized jacket for the first time.  The standard official jacket currently costs $60 which can sometimes be a hardship for members.

The FFA jacket dates back to 1933 when a group of Ohio FFA members attended the National FFA Convention wearing a similar blue corduroy jacket with their chapter name embroidered on the back.  They attracted so much attention and were so popular that they soon became part of the official attire.  By 1964, one million jackets had been sold and today, more than 80,000 are ordered annually. While the official jacket has changed and evolved since 1933, it remains a symbol of pride that unifies the more than 850,000 FFA members nationwide.  This long standing tradition reminds members that they are part of something bigger than themselves.

All funds collected will be used directly towards the purchase of jackets.  A minimum of one jacket will be presented each year but additional awards may be given if the funds are available.  The announcement of winners will be made at our annual chapter banquet held each spring.  Jacket sponsors will also be recognized at the banquet and are invited to attend.
